Full of surprise it still retains some of the original tourist attraction, being a model village based on the Harbour and street of Clovelly in N.W. Cornwall. With stunning views of Lundy Island and the Welsh Coast on clear days.”

    JewelleryFused Glass, Lampwork

“My love of glass started over 35 years ago when I studied the art of stained glass. Since then I have become a self taught fused glass and lampwork artist. I incorporate elements I have recreated on my lampwork torch into my fused glass panels, pictures and giftware. Also using my torch to create unique one of a kind lampwork and sterling silver jewellery. My work reflects my love of bright colours and the beauty of transparent and opaque glass, together with pure silver and copper to recreate my interpretation of our wonderful local coastal and exmoor scenes. I enjoy encapsulating my love of natures beauty into my pieces of art and often focus my work on flowers, birds, trees and the ocean to create special pieces of art that will hopefully bring years of joy and happiness to the recipient. I always strive to develop new designs and creations and love challenging myself to continuously evolve my work.”

“For me, periods of creativity come in phases, finding an avenue of ideas to explore and play with without preconceptions or a destination point. It’s somewhat like mining; finding a vein or seam to excavate, then digging away to see what you find until the lode runs out. It’s a good analogy; it’s hard but absorbing work in a little space all of its own and you never quite know what you are going to discover. Starting points can come from anywhere; a process, a technique, a colour, a song lyric, a conversation, a concept, a contradiction, music, a feeling. Anything that suggests an unresolved question or prompts curiosity about how we live and interpret the world. Humans are the most consequential, contradictory and contrary species; the most brilliant and the most imbecilic, the most rational and irrational, both creative and the most destructive. Consequently, I find the richest themes come from people and the work that results is usually figurative.”

“An exhibition of mixed media paintings as well as crafts – an explosion of colours and textures to feed the creative spirit! My painting reflects an abstract style, self-expression and hence, has no limits as far as colour and perspective is concerned and it is very satisfying when that particular technique speaks to the onlooker because I know they are on my wavelength! My watercolours, although influenced by my environment, also reflect a certain abstract quality. Crafts include scrap journalling (containing samples of humorous poems composed by me, creating fun out of every day, banal happenings), textural neckwear made from colourful woven yarns and handmade cards for all occasions. A medley of work to catch the eye!”

“Originally from the North East coast of Scotland, I moved to Ilfracombe straight from Glasgow school of Art, where I studied fine art. Always an impatient painter I turned to photography as my hand could never keep up with the ever changing light. Photography soon became a full time career and passion achieving Fellowship with the BIPP and Associateship with the RPS Ilfracombe has been my home for 42 years. Married to Carl, a born and bred local, we share six children all of whom have now found their own way in life. Maturity has brought me some patience and the coastline my inspiration, my art is mostly described as bringing happiness and joy. To me colour is everything, I work in mixed media, enjoying pen and ink, watercolour, acrylic, oils, printing and photography. I look forward to welcoming you to my Atelier, where I run art classes, paint & sips, workshops and display my work. I trained as an architect and taught Theatre Set Design briefly but eventually joined the RAF before settling in Devon where I found the time and space to reconnect with my creative side in the studio. My canvases often depict the ocean and all its inhabitants and I aim to capture their energy, colour and life. Often my paintings reflect my mood, they are personal and unique. When I am not painting, I turn to drawing, heavily influenced by my architectural roots, I capture images of homes, special places and buildings. Some of my drawings are commissions, others simply to capture their beauty and unique qualities.”

Chris is inspired by what she sees in books and magazines, on the internet, by friends, family and by people who have commissioned her to produce a particular piece. She then carefully selects colours, fabric and design to create the finished piece. She uses a variety of quilting techniques depending on purpose and what she wants the finished piece to look like. These include foundation piecing, trapunto, and free motion quilting. Chris mainly creates quilts as gifts for family and friends and delights in the reaction she gets when a quilt is handed over. This is Chris’s fourth Art Trail. She has new quilts to show since her last exhibition.”
