“Paul enjoys painting the seas, skies and landscapes of the local area. He works in acrylic and mixed media on paper, canvas and upcycled objects to capture its unique and dynamic nature. He is known locally for his regular exhibitions and as a co-owner and an exhibiting artist of The Pier Gallery on the quay in Ilfracombe.”

About Paul Swailes

Since leaving teaching he has devoted much of his time to exploring North Devon’s natural environments and painting its many and varied wild landscapes. “I love the challenge of capturing the remarkable forces of nature at work shaping our region, especially the Atlantic breakers, woodlands and the windswept rolling moors which have always fascinated me.” Paul never tires of portraying the different seasons and moods he observes. He has put together several collections and exhibitions of his original paintings together with limited edition prints, posters and greetings cards etc. which celebrate our local environment. Paul will feature two new collections of work entitled “The Turning of the Tide” and “Light and Shade” in this year’s Art Trail.
