About Alison Rowe

Many years later in 2016 I moved to Ilfracombe and was inspired to produce this artwork. I create marks and textures with a brush and pen or anything to make marks, always experimenting to see what I can achieve using resists, bleeds, splashes and scratches. Both the monotone textures and the coloured ink paintings, together with my initial pencil drawing are then scanned or photographed using an iPad pro. I then use an Apple pencil and an app called Procreate to ‘cut out’ and fuse all the desired elements of the painting and textures I have made, in multiple layers on top of my original drawing and sometimes use the drawing and painting capabilities of the Apple pencil and App as well, to create the desired effect. I would describe the whole process as ‘digital print making’. The end result is always a digital file, which is then sent to the printers. They make a fine art, archival (giclee) print on specialist paper from that.
