“Kya Beers is a Bristol-based mixed media artist from the coastal town of Ilfracombe, Devon. Working through portraiture, text and natural elements, she builds oil paintings on layered, abstract grounds – combining gestural mark-making with spray paint, drawing and collage-like surfaces.”

“My artistic journey is intrinsically linked to the legacy of my late father, the celebrated wildlife artist Mick Cawston. Growing up immersed in his world of creativity, I was always sketching, a passion that led to winning art competitions and representing my school in various events. This foundational passion flourished during my fine art studies in college, where I consistently achieved high grades, refining my technical skills in oil paints and charcoal.”

“Growing up, we were always encouraged to be creative. As a result, I have tried many different forms of media from pottery to cross stitch – there are very few I haven’t had a go at! I tend to switch between these from one piece to another. I have always loved animals and nature making it my main subject in my artwork.”

“I trained and worked as a textile designer, supplying original designs, archival reworking and colouring for interior use for European and American clients. Living here, I have been painting and drawing for pure pleasure.”
