For over eleven years I have been a photo-journalist and documentary photographer covering events of social and political importance up and down the UK and abroad. This work has informed my other two practices which are fine art embroidery and now painting.
Painting is a new branch of my creativity which was brought into sharp focus by the three lockdowns we have experienced. Not being able to continue my photography I started to paint, always with gouache on good quality watercolour paper. I love the immediacy, vibrancy and opacity of gouache; I feel it gives my work a visual language unique to me. I am currently experimenting with Birchwood panels and Holbein Acryl, which will allow me to work without framing some my work under glass. My subject matter has gravitated to painting animals and abstract landscapes and seascapes for now. Painting is still very new to me and I am constantly exploring all the avenues there are to express myself with this new found medium which I am very much enjoying.
