Katie Mallett

Painting

Katie Mallett moved to Devon from Southend on Sea, Essex in 2005.

She began painting when she joined art groups in Ilfracombe, initially with acrylics, then watercolours and is now using mixed media to achieve the effect she desires.

Though inspired by the Devon coast and countryside, she also likes to depict subjects from her imagination and tries to insert a surreal element into landscapes, hoping to surprise and entertain viewers.

In Essex she worked as a journalist and poet, having a column in a local paper for five years.
She was also the BBC Essex poet on radio, writing and broadcasting a new poem every week for five and a half years.  Her poems have appeared in several national magazines and anthologies, including How to be Well-Versed in Poetry published by Penguin.

Last year she had a book of her quirkier poems published by Blue Poppy Publishing.
Her book ‘SURPRISE, SURPRISE!’ is available from Ilfracombe Book Shop and  www.bluepoppypublishing.co.uk.
