Duvessa
An immersive audiovisual installation blending altered‑reality film, looping ambient music, and live spoken word. Dual projections merge natural and digital worlds as B.B. Martin narrates shifting identity. Drop-in Session.
Information about the Workshop
This installation is an immersive, multi‑sensory work that explores identity, memory, and the blurred boundary between the organic and the digital. Combining altered‑reality film, looping ambient compositions, and live spoken word, the piece invites audiences into a slow, hypnotic environment where time feels suspended and meaning unfolds gradually.
The visual element consists of dual projections: one rooted in natural imagery—forests, water, stone, skin—while the other presents fragmented digital textures, degraded archives, and abstracted technological forms. These projections bleed into one another, sometimes synchronised, sometimes drifting out of phase, creating a visual dialogue between the ancient and the contemporary, the human and the constructed.
Sound plays a central role. Evolving ambient drones, subtle rhythmic pulses, and ritualistic tones loop and mutate throughout the installation. Influenced by industrial ambience, folk minimalism, and dream‑logic repetition, the music acts less as a soundtrack and more as a living atmosphere that the audience inhabits.
At the heart of the work is the persona of B.B. Martin, who appears as both narrator and presence. Through live or recorded spoken word, B.B. Martin delivers fragmented reflections—part confession, part myth—touching on themes of melancholy, resilience, sensuality, and transformation. The voice drifts in and out, never fully anchoring the meaning, encouraging the listener to form their own emotional narrative.
Rather than telling a linear story, the installation functions as a ritual space: a place to pause, feel, and reflect. It asks the audience not to understand, but to experience—to sit within ambiguity, beauty, and unease, and to momentarily inhabit an altered reality.
