Caitlin Wilson

Originally from Bristol, I trained in illustration, a discipline that sparked a love for ceramics.

Seeking to merge drawn language with three-dimensional form, my practice is inspired by modern ceramists such as Philip Eglin, particularly his way of combining lines with colour and the large forms. Colour is central to my work; I devote considerable time to mixing and selecting palettes that establish the emotional register of each piece.

Alongside ceramics, I maintain a painting practice rooted in oil paint, where I explore form, gesture, and expression through a more fluid and intuitive process.

These two practices operate in dialogue, ceramics demand precision, clarity of line, and sharpness of execution, while painting allows for looseness, movement, and immediacy. Together, they reflect contrasting but complementary modes of making.

My work is shaped by personal ways of seeing and responding to the world. The act of making functions as both focus and release, offering space for contemplation and play. Experimentation is fundamental, I embrace uncertainty as a generative force, allowing outcomes to emerge organically and remain open to discovery.
